Frequently asked questions
F.A.Q.
Are parents allowed to enroll in the trips?
At this time, only students in grades 9-12 are eligible to travel on our tours.
What company is used to book the trips?
We use Explorica, EF Educational Tours, and ACIS.
How many chaperones are there on the trips?
The chaperone ratio is approximately 1 chaperone for every 5-6 students.
What happens if my child needs medical attention?
It is our goal to bring a certified nurse as a chaperone on as many trips as possible. The nurse would be the first level of medical attention. Our 24-hour tour director is familiar with the area that we are traveling and has knowledge to all the local medical facilities. Additionally, all Tusker Travels trips includes the Travel Protection Plan built into the tour price. The Travel Protection Plan helps travelers protect their investment from common claims, including: flight delay, loss of job by a parent, death or illness of a family member and medical coverage on tour in case of sickness or an emergency.
How old does my child need to be in order to attend a Tusker Travels Trip?
Students must be enrolled as a freshman, sophomore, junior or senior at the time of the trip (unless otherwise stated in the trip description). For trips that depart over the summer, students who have recently completed their freshman year are eligible as well as students who have recently completed their senior year.
What local school communities are eligible to attend Tusker Travels Trips?
We are now accepting students from any school communities in Hudson Valley and surrounding region. This includes (but is not limited to) school communities in the following counties: Westchester, Rockland, Dutchess, Orange, Ulster, Putnam, Sullivan, Litchfield, Fairfield, Hartford, New Haven.
My child has prescription medication that needs to be refrigerated. What are your policies regarding medications?
All medication is to be self-administered by the traveler. The traveler should be aware of required dosage and times for administering medication. We will have access to refrigeration at all hotels, should medication require refrigeration. Prescription medication should be in its original container and the traveler should carry only the quantity of medication required for the duration of the trip. A list of prescription and non-prescription medication that the travelers will bring should be submitted to Tusker Travels.
How does rooming work? How do I request my child room with his/her friends?
A few months prior to departure there is a Roommate Request Form that each traveler will complete. Students will choose 5 friends they want to room with. Roommate configurations change at each hotel due to different room configurations from doubles to quads. Students will be roomed with at least one person from their request list. We tirelessly pre-plan the rooming configurations to the best of our ability to be sure all travelers are as happy as possible!
